Journalism and Women Symposium is a 501(c)3 non-profit that supports the professional empowerment and personal growth of women in journalism and works toward a more accurate portrayal of the whole society. Our website address is: https://members.jaws.org.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form and the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam so we can keep your JAWS member site for just us and our fellow members.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service (Gravatar is a service for providing globally unique) if you are using it. Here’s the Gravatar service privacy policy . After your comment has been approved and goes live, anyone who visits will see your profile picture alongside your comment.
Media
If you arere considering uploading images to the website, be aware that visitors to the website can download and extract any embedded location data (EXIF GPS) that those images might contain.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt to save your name, email address and website in cookies for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details each time you leave a comment. These cookies will last for one year.

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve your follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users who register on our website, we also store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You and all other users can see, edit, or delete your own personal information at any time, except for your username. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
If you delete your account, we will remove all that user data from our site. Any posts or comments you’ve made may persist, depending on the type of post. This is mostly just true for comments.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can ask to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also ask us to erase any personal data we hold about you. We will delete everything except any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
