Hello Jawdesses! Are you looking for a job and wondering why that cover letter you keep sending out isn’t leading to offers? Would you like to hear what makes hiring editors jump on some applications and send others to the reject pile? Then come to our first JAWS NYC event of 2017, featuring two of your very own JAWS members who hire people AND help them get their first jobs: Tina Susman and Andrea Stone. Andrea is director of career services at the CUNY grad school of journalism and a former national and foreign correspondent. Tina is national editor at BuzzFeed News and a former national and foreign correspondent. Both have journalism careers that have weathered recessions, buyouts, layoffs, and the digital revolution. And both have jobs that involve looking at mountains of resumes and cover letters. We’ll talk about that and more, including the claim that “you have to know someone” to get a job. (Hint: not always, but it can’t hurt.)
