For our next JAWS SoCal meet-up, we're going to focus on the business side of freelancing, and the financial ins and outs of making it when you’re self-employed. Linda Marsa, a former staff writer at the LA Times and current freelance health and science writer for publications including Aeon, Discover and The Atlantic, will be our featured expert at this event. We plan on addressing the following questions:
-How can you balance different types of work and income streams to make a solid living?
-When you're looking for new clients, how do you know who pays? And how much should you charge for your work - by the hour, the word or the project?
-What's are some things to look out for before you sign a contract?
-What’s the best way to keep track of assignments and deal with the accounting side of things?
-How do you grow your business over time and ensure that it’s vibrant and sustainable?

We'll meet Sunday, March 13 from 1-4 p.m. at a JAWS member's home - details will be given via email.

Space is limited, so please RSVP to Anne Machalinski: anne.machalinski@gmail.com.
